WHAT IS YOUR CHARACTER'S SOCIOECONOMIC BACKGROUND? WHAT IS THEIR RELATIONSHIP TO WEALTH?:
To be a Falcone is to only know wealth, power and freedom, with near absolute dominion in Gotham. Sofia was accordingly raised in extravagant, generational wealth in her family's biggest mansion (and, occasionally, one of several Italian villas), all paid for by dirty, dirty money. The Falcones are Gotham's biggest crime family and have been for decades. In a city with a stark wealth divide, they're part of the haves in every sense of the word -- simultaneously enmeshed with Gotham's seedy underworld and its high society. Even as a young girl, Sofia knew where her family's money came from and that it was essential to lie about this for appearance's sake. Her father controlled the Gotham City Police until very recently, with significant influence over the local government as well.
As the eldest daughter to Carmine, the last leader of the family, she was poised to inherit the empire and tasked with a good little rich girl PR Campaign, heading her deceased mother's generous charitable foundation. She was spoilt but polite, even sweet, until she crossed her father, who had her imprisoned for his own crimes. Ten years in Arkham Asylum have since roughened up her edges (and tested her sanity). No point in adhering to manners in handcuffs, right?
Still, as old money, she has a disdain for the new - the scrappy indignities of the self-made man, the cheap imitations of designer work. You can't buy taste or class, after all. She's also a gangster, trying to embrace and signal her power, so said taste manifests in fur coats, precious gems, and designer pulls. She may be kinder than some of her family members, but she still plans to seize power by explotiing the working class and views those beneath as her as expendable (i.e. torturing and shooting an innocent young man to prove a point; nobody will miss a street kid). This is most evident in her relationship with her driver, Oz Cobb: While she scolds family who mock him for his disability and views him almost paternally, she also reminds him of his place as staff, not family, and even seems surprised when he dares enter her family home (drivers and dogs wait outside).
